Colony Collapse is the label of Canadian sculptor-musician Justin Pape, who has released physical editions, photo books, and small sculptures in limited editions. For some time, Justin has been looking for a way to combine the exploration of sustainable material and the music of other artists to create limited-edition music-sculpture art pieces.

Bahía Mansa is the sound project of musician Iván Aguayo. He has released a series of albums emphasizing the textural exploration of ambient minimalism from an ecological perspective, using electronic instruments and field recordings.

At the beginning of 2022, Colony Collapse contacted Bahía Mansa and, given their mutual interest in each other's art, the idea of collaborating from their respective disciplines was born. Thus, “costa documental”, a collaborative piece of music-sculpture created by the musician Iván Aguayo and the sculptor Justin Pape, was born from their interest in exploring ecology in a sustainable way.

"This album was born in order to document my conversations with the sea and thus reconfigure a narrative towards a more oceanic perspective. It was inspired by photographs, memories, travels, and faces found on the Pacific Ocean coast during these last two years."

Cassette tapes housed inside a fully biodegradable sculpture made of pine, leaves, and agar, made by Colony Collapse.

Colony Collapse es el sello del escultor-músico canadiense Justin Pape, que a la fecha ha lanzado ediciones físicas, libros fotográficos y pequeñas esculturas en ediciones limitadas. Desde hace un tiempo, Justin busca la forma de combinar la exploración de material sustentable y la música de otros artistas para crear piezas de arte música-escultura en ediciones limitadas.

bahía mansa es el proyecto sonoro del músico Iván Aguayo. Ha lanzado una serie de álbumes en los que prima la exploración textural del minimalismo ambiental desde una perspectiva ecológica, usando instrumentos electrónicos y grabaciones de campo.

A inicios del 2022, Colony Collapse contactó a bahía mansa y, dado el mutuo interés en el arte del otro, nació la idea de colaborar desde sus respectivas disciplinas. “costa documental” , pieza colaborativa de música-escultura creada por el músico Iván Aguayo y el escultor Justin Pape, nace entonces a partir de su interés por la exploración de la ecología en forma sustentable.

“Este álbum nace con el fin de documentar mis conversaciones con el mar y así reconfigurar una narrativa hacia una perspectiva más oceánica. Fue compuesto a partir de fotografías, recuerdos, viajes y rostros encontrados en la costa del Océano Pacífico durante estos dos últimos años.”

La escultura que aloja al cassette está hecha de pino, hojas y agar y fue hecha por Colony Collapse.
